A 1,200 g hoodie in a 40 × 30 × 20 cm box: volumetric is 4,000 g, so the courier charges 4,000 g, not 1,200 g. That is the whole reason a puffer costs more than its scale weight suggests.
How to shrink the number
- Ask for vacuum packing on soft goods only.
- Fold shoe boxes; never fold structured bags.
- Ship 3 kg or more per parcel — handling amortises.

Calculator questions
Why is the estimate higher than my scale?
Because couriers charge volumetric weight when the box is large relative to its mass. The calculator shows both numbers and uses the larger one, rounded up to the next 500 g.
How accurate is this calculator?
Within roughly 20% of a live quote on standard lines, assuming your weight and dimensions are close. It excludes remote-area surcharges, insurance and customs.
